Association of -77T>C and Arg194trp polymorphisms of XRCC1 with risk of coronary artery diseases in Iranian population

Objective(s): Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in both male and female worldwide. The main cause of CAD is the atherosclerosis of coronary arteries, which is, mostly caused by genetic alteration. 50% of such cases occur in mitotic cells where single-strand breaks occur spontaneously or due to ionizing radiation. X-ray repair cross-complementing protein 1 (XRCC1) as a ...

DNA-Repair Capacity in Down\'s Syndrome

Down's syndrome (DS) is the most common chromosomal abnormality in human. Subjects with DS are known to be peridisposed to develop leukemia. The molecular basis of the association between DS and leukemia is unknown. The unscheduled DNA synthesis (UDS) test measure the ability of DNA-repair in mammalian cells after excision of a stretch of DNA containing the region of damage induced by chemical ...

ntextual” Synthetic Lethality and/or Loss of erozygosity: Tumor Hypoxia and ification of DNA Repair

wnloade oxia exists in every solid tumor and is associated with poor prognosis because of both local and ic therapeutic resistance. Recent studies have focused on the interaction between tumor cell genetd the dynamic state of oxygenation and metabolism. Hypoxia generates aggressive tumor cell phees in part owing to ongoing genetic instability and a “mutator” phenotype. The latter may be due to ...

Interaction of arsenic(III) with nucleotide excision repair in UV-irradiated human fibroblasts.

Even though epidemiological studies have identified arsenic compounds as carcinogenic to humans, they are not mutagenic in bacterial and mammalian test systems. However, they increase the mutagenicity and clastogenicity in combination with other DNA damaging agents and there are indications of inhibition of DNA repair processes. We investigated the effect of arsenic(III) on nucleotide excision ...
